Bhutan

Bhutan is located at the eastern end of the Himalaya Mountains and is bordered to the south, east and west by India and to the north by Tibet.  Bhutan is an intensely religious and spiritual Buddhist country and has a unique blend of the old and new. Here is a country that is slowly opening up to the modern world in a fine balance with its ancient traditions.

Popularly known as ‘the land of the Peaceful Dragon’, Bhutan is paradise for trekker's and nature lovers alike with dozens of snow-capped peaks, crystal clear mountain springs, meandering rivers, mystic valleys, diverse flora and fauna and an overall pristine environment.

Trekking in Bhutan is the ultimate Himalayan experience.  The Bhutanese have treasured their natural environment and trekking here is highly exclusive (with the Bhutan government limiting the amount of visitors).

Country Profile

  • Area: Approx 38,500 sq km

  • Population: Approx 635,000

  • Capital City: Thimphu

  • Currency: Ngultrum

Sacred Summits - Jumolhari Trek

This is possibly one of the most beautiful and un-spoilt trekking areas in the entire Himalaya. The trek begins at Drukgyal Dzong passing through beautiful villages and farmland.  We trek through gorges and valleys offering spectacular views of the sacred summits of Bhutan including Bhutan’s deeply venerated guardian peak Mt Jumolhari and Jichu Drake.  We trek to lakes, high pasture land and passes and along the we may even get the chance to see an elusive snow leopard and blue sheep.
