The Galápagos Islands are a haven of wildlife situated some 1,000km off Ecuador’s coast in the Pacific Ocean. The Galapagos are often associated with English naturalist Charles Darwin, who in 1831 set forth on HMS Beagle to collect and document the islands’ unique species and was able build the case for “evolution” based on his observations of natural selection.

The Islands are administered by a provisional government. Ecuador is a safe country for travel, and common sense needs to be used to avoid most crimes.
Spanish is the offical language for Ecuador, although you will find that many people also speak English.
