Orangutans & River Safaris in Tanjung Puting

This unique trip to Indonesian Borneo combines the best of Tanjung Puting National Park’s orang-utan research stations and rehabilitation centres with some excellent jungle trekking. You get a unique experience to witness at first hand the work of a team of dedicated conservationists striving to preserve the habitat of these magnificent orang-utans.

Tanjung Puting National Park is arguably the best place in Borneo to see orang-utans as it’s home to the densest population anywhere in the whole of Borneo. You’ll also see the charismatic and rare proboscis monkey, the false gavial crocodile and a huge range of tropical birds.
Spend your time on board a river boat (klotok), a great way to enter deep into the Borneo rainforest.

It was named after the legendary paleo-anthropologist, Louis Leakey, who was both mentor and an inspiration to Dr. Galdikas as well as Drs. Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey.  When we arrive in Camp Leakey we can learn about its history and we will trek through the jungle with the opportunity of seeing numerous  orangutans, gibbons, wild pigs and  birds. Borneo, seeing orangutans

We had the most amazing trip - thank you!

Pioneer was fanastic throughout the booking process. Due to our other bookings, we had 4 days to enjoy a Pioneer trip, but the Borneo trips are usually 3 or 5 days. No problem - Pioneer put together a bespoke 4 day trip for us! Absoutely brilliant.

For the trip, we flew into Jakarta and we were met by a very friendly guide who took us to our hotel. The hotel was excellent and the dinner and breakfast was great. Next day, we flew from Jakarta to Pangkalan Bun (all booked by Pioneer, which was excellent - there was even a last minute change of teminal for our second flight that the Pioneer team dealt with so smoothly we only actually realised it had happened because another (non-Pioneer) passenger was stressed by it!).

Once in Borneo, we were met by our guide, Jeffery, who took us to our klotok (river boat). The boat was incredible - very comfortable, great service, amazing food - you really couldn't ask for more. The experience of seeing orangutans (and proboscis monkeys, macaques, gibbons, kingfishers, hornbills, to name a few!) was so special and the scenery was brilliant. Four days flew by and we had the best time. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pioneer.

Thank you so much Edward. We are delighted that you had an amazing time and that everything went smoothly for you. thanks again :)
