Panama is a unique destination where two oceans, continents and cultures meet. Known for the world-famous Panama Canal, the country offers an extraordinary variety of landscapes, from tropical rainforests and wildlife-rich national parks to idyllic Caribbean islands and vibrant colonial cities. Adventure travellers can trek through dense jungle, explore indigenous territories, kayak along remote coastlines and discover some of Central America’s richest marine ecosystems.
From the historic streets of Casco Viejo in Panama City to the palm-fringed islands of the San Blas archipelago, Panama combines cultural discovery with remarkable natural beauty. Despite its small size, the country offers an impressive range of experiences, making it one of Central America’s most diverse and accessible destinations.
Panama forms the narrow land bridge connecting North and South America and separates the Pacific Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Covering around 75,000 km², the country is dominated by tropical rainforest, mountain ranges and coastal plains. Nearly a third of Panama is protected within national parks and nature reserves, supporting exceptional biodiversity including jaguars, sloths, monkeys and hundreds of bird species.

Panama has one of the strongest economies in the region, driven largely by services related to the Panama Canal, banking, shipping and international trade. Tourism continues to grow rapidly, with visitors attracted by the country’s wildlife, beaches, indigenous cultures and world-class sailing areas such as the San Blas Islands and Bocas del Toro.
Spanish is the official language of Panama, although English is widely spoken in many tourism areas and within the business community. Indigenous languages are also spoken within several native territories, reflecting the country’s diverse cultural heritage.
Religion plays an important role in Panamanian culture. The majority of the population identifies as Roman Catholic, although Protestant and Evangelical Christian communities are also significant. Religious traditions and festivals remain an important part of life throughout the country.
Panama is located in Central America just north of the equator providing the country with a tropical climate boasting constant hot climates of around 30 degrees all year round. Although the least hot months are October and November, with May to November typically being the wet season and December to April being the dry season. Thus, it could be considered that the best time to travel to Panama is December through to March.
“Think Panama and , understandably, you can’t help thinking of the canal (which never fails to amaze) but, there is so much more! Deserted white sand islands peppered the coastline while others are home to indigenous and autonomous Guna Indians famed for their colourful embroidery. On higher ground ,in Boquete, white water rafting and zip lining were being enjoyed by adventurous families before they headed to the stunning archipelago of Bocas del Toro ”
