Rwanda has so much to offer as a holiday destination, being a landlocked country it makes up for its lack of coastline with beautiful green scenery and mountainous landscapes. The ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’ lies in the heart of Africa, with 5 volcanoes, 23 lakes and numerous rivers. You will taste and smell the spices from the colourful Rwandan markets, meet the locals and discover their traditions, kayak on the enormous Lake Kivu, track chimpanzees in the Cyamudingi Forest, cycle on the lower slopes of Mt. Sabyinyo, and of course; observe the impressive mountain gorillas that Rwanda are renown for, found in the famous Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda is becoming the ‘Singapore’ of Africa.
Rwanda has a population of around 12.79 million. The largest city in Rwanda and their capital city, Kigali has previously been known as the cleanest city in Africa.
Namibia comprises four main differing landscapes. The vast Kalahari Desert has red sands and sparse vegetation, while provinces in the north have rivers, woodland savannahs and tropical forests. There is a long coastal desert that runs the length of the country. The central plateau is home to the majority of the towns and villages.
The population is slightly more than 2.3 million, and about 90% of the population is Christian.
Rwanda is a landlocked country bordered by Uganda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania. Renown as ‘the land of a thousand hills’ since most of the land is mountainous, with rolling hills and grasslands stretching on for as far as you can see.
The current president in Rwanda is Paul Kagame, who has been elected three times since he was first elected in 2000.
Rwanda has been classed as having one of Africa’s fastest growing economies. The Rwandan franc (RWF) is the official currency within the country.
There are three official languages in Rwanda: English, Kinyarwanda and French, some also speak Swahili.
The best time to travel to Rwanda is generally between June and September and December to February, during the drier seasons when conditions are ideal for trekking in the forests and tracking mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. Trails are typically less muddy and wildlife viewing is excellent. The rainier months usually fall between March to May and October to November, when heavier rainfall can make trekking conditions more challenging.
“Rwanda has transformed remarkably from a troubled past into a peaceful and welcoming destination, where tourism is closely linked with community projects and sustainable development. The country’s lush landscapes, rolling hills, and vibrant culture now invite travellers to experience its beauty firsthand. And at the heart of Rwanda’s appeal are the majestic silverback gorillas—creatures so awe-inspiring they truly defy adjectives. Observing them in their natural habitat is an unforgettable, humbling experience, and it reflects Rwanda’s commitment to conservation, responsible tourism, and the restoration of harmony between people, wildlife, and the land.”
