Guyana is one of the least-known corners of South America and is truly an ‘off the beaten track’ experience. The Pioneer team, alongside our local partners have a fantastic knowledge of Guyana and a real love of developing unique experiences for our clients.
As the only English-speaking country of South America, due to its British colonial past, Guyana is a delight for English speaking visitors. Its chief resource has been its natural resources, such as its pristine rainforests, sugarcane plantations, rice fields, and bauxite and gold reserves. Nevertheless, Guyana has remained one of the poorest countries in South America until recently when it’s fortunes changed dramatically in 2015 with the discovery of rich offshore oil fields.
Guyana has an abundance of amazing wildlife that you may never have experienced before including; jaguars, tapir, giant anteater and the black caiman. Extraordinary wildlife isn’t the only thing Guyana has to offer. Pristine rainforests, incredible rivers and spectacular sun rises make this idyllic country the perfect escape from reality. As well as the unforgettable wildlife, Guyana is home to the Kaieteur Falls; which is the world’s tallest single-drop waterfall and is five times the height of the Niagara Falls at 741 feet. Let us plan your holiday to Guyana today!
Guyana is the only country in South America that has English as its offical language and is one of the least-known corners of South America. Guyana is a truly off the beaten track experience with both a rich culture and a pristine environment. There are 9 Amerindian tribes in Guyana and outstanding community tourism to experience. Guyana is also home to magnificent wildlife such as; Jaguars, Giant Anteaters, Giant River Otters, Black Caiman, Tapir, 8 species of Monkey, Tiny Frogs, Turtles, Snakes, and over 800 species of Birds including the Harpy Eagle, which is one of the World’s largest Eagles.
Guyana caters for all sorts of visitors with its main four geographical regions. Guyana is made up of swampy costs, hillier sandy regions, beautiful tropical rain forests and the Rupununi Savannah of the South. Guyana is approximately 214,969 square kilometres and is located in Northern South America and part of Caribbean South America. The county is bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, between Suriname and Venezuela.

Guyana is the only South American country to have English as its offical language
Guyana can be visited year-round, although the drier months from February to April and September to November generally offer the best conditions for travel and wildlife viewing. During these periods rainfall is typically lower, making it easier to explore the country’s rainforests, rivers and waterfalls. The wetter seasons usually occur between May to August and December to January, when heavier tropical rains are more common.
“Perhaps one of the last truly unspoilt wildlife destinations on the planet, Guyana often remains overlooked in South America, partly because of its location between Brazil and Venezuela. Yet it offers some of the continent’s most spectacular scenery, with the majestic Kaieteur Falls standing out as a breathtaking highlight. Home to giant anteaters, giant otters and even giant bird-eating spiders, it can feel like stepping into a real-life Jurassic Park. In many ways, Guyana is a destination unlike anywhere else on Earth”
