Belize, on the eastern coast of Central America, boasts a Caribbean shoreline and extraordinary jungles and indigenous cultures. This country is also home to some of the most wonderful wildlife such as howler monkeys and jaguars. Our trips to Belize are centred around exciting activities and exploring unique cultures and sea landscapes, through snorkelling, rafting and kayaking. As well as diving into the stunning underwater world of Belize, you will adventure above sea level through tropical rainforests, remote villages and different cultures. One of our trips to Belize is often successfully paired with a contrasting tour through Guatemala. Moving away from water sport activities, you’ll get the opportunity to see Antigua, Semuc Champey, walk amongst cloud forest, viewing a vast array of wildlife including various species of birds along your way as well as the incredible pyramids of the Mayan civilisation. Guatemala (‘place of many trees’) lives up to its name and gives visitors a thrilling view of Central American wildlife and ancient cultures.
Located on the north eastern coast of Central America, Belize is bordered to the north by Mexico, the South and West by Guatemala and to the East by the Caribbean Sea. It’s mainland is approximately 180 miles long and 68 miles wide and its population of less than 350,000 inhabitants means it possesses the lowest population density in Central America. Belize is covered by over 60% of forest and the Belize Barrier Reef System both constitutes a UNESCO-recognised World Heritage Site and the second largest barrier reef in the world.
Belize has a small but expanding economy. The main export products of Belize are petroleum and crude oil, agriculture, agro-based industry, and merchandising, with tourism and construction recently assuming greater importance.
The main language in Belize is English, although Kriol and Spanish are more commonly spoken.
Belize has a tropical climate with pronounced wet and dry seasons, although there are significant variations in weather patterns by region. Temperatures vary according to elevation, proximity to the coast, and the moderating effects of the northeast trade winds off the Caribbean. Average temperatures in the coastal regions range from 24 °C (75.2 °F) in January to 27 °C (80.6 °F) in July. Temperatures are slightly higher inland. Overall, the seasons are marked more by differences in humidity and rainfall than in temperature.
“Belize holds a special place for us, particularly the remote beauty of Glover’s Reef Atoll, where we’ve been working since 1987 . Over the years we’ve built strong relationships with local communities and developed a deep appreciation for this remarkable marine environment. The reef itself is extraordinary—crystal-clear waters, thriving coral and abundant wildlife—but it’s the people who make the experience truly meaningful. Spending time with Garifuna communities adds a rich cultural dimension, offering insight into traditions, music and food that reflect Belize’s vibrant heritage. For me, Belize is about connection—between ocean, culture and community.”
